The Abominable Bride!

Sherlock, I moustache you a question Watson your face?

Note: Contains Spoiler!

This film is BBC’S holiday special in the Sherlock Holmes series. Fans have been waiting since two long years for the fourth season. Since every episode is almost like a film BBC takes an unusually long time to produce them. Some fans including me have given up on this series though we were highly charmed when we saw them first. This episode in particular was released as a holiday special and it didn’t really further the story.

The beginning and set-up had elements from many classical episodes which look almost paranormal but tend to have simpler explanations. The intriguing plot had an abominable bride which comes back after dying and kills her husband, while she killed many people before dying. Solving this case seemed mysterious and intriguing but what was more so was hallucinations Holmes was having inside mind palace or was he? That bit clearly remains unclear. You don’t know if it was the time travel or hallucinations or something else(parallel universes overlapping for example) back and forth doses of too many twists across the timescapes made your head a bit giddy.  It’s not that I have not witnessed such theatrics elsewhere but this one didn’t really serve much because they seemed to evaporate after building up a bit: all of them. However, I enjoyed watching the film and found it more intriguing than the review made me to think it was! I am eagerly awaiting for next episodes in this season.

    1. Thanks for your kind words Oneta. I really don’t do reviews.I have read reviews and they contain many details technical and otherwise. I just share my feelings about some films I like. Thanks and have a great day!

  1. Interesting review! We enjoyed the New Year special, especially the Inception-like time/parallel universe issue. But then we live on a diet of sci-fi and cult TV and movies. I agree though that it does feel as if the series lost its way after season 2. Season 3 was, frankly, a disappointment for us, especially the lame wedding/best man’s speech episode which seems to us to be poorly paced (i.e. boring!).

    1. I couldn’t agree more. I have an affinity for time-loop/sci-fi films so that is not a problem but here it seemed kind of random and misguided 🙂

Thanks for your visit and feedback.
