Fearless Fantasies!

Fearless Fantasies

How would your life be different if you were incapable of feeling fear? Would your life be better or worse than it is now?

I feel being incapable of feeling fear is different from being someone who has transcended it. Fear, like pain is essential to the survival of organism. For example, if you don’t feel pain you will not know when there is a random cut and you start bleeding and it might cause an irreparable damage or even death in certain situations. Similarly fear is necessary in many cases. You might have seen very young children who pick a snake up or kick a dog fearlessly. Ignorance is bliss! They have no fear and that might be dangerous for them. Their lack of fear is because of their ignorance.

Some spiritual people think that being fearless is being able to walk on fire or hug a tiger. Nothing can be farther from the truth. A truly spiritual person must be fearless. If you are not fearless you are not truly spiritual but here we are talking about something else than ingesting poison or letting an elephant walk over you. Miracles or reckless feats of heroism might appeal to many but that is not necessarily being fearless. Putting your organism in unnecessary danger is not wise by any means and in any sense. Being fearless is having no anticipation of tomorrow. Living in present and being free from both guilt and expectations is being fearless.

Gandhi was a fearless person. So was Jesus. Buddha, Krishna, Muhammad, Nanak, Kabir and Lao Tzu were fearless. You are fearless when you know laws of nature and live in harmony with them and yet willing to sacrifice everything for truth and peace. Courage is a divine quality and it comes from within. Tao doesn’t appreciate recklessness but the mystic virtue is to be fearless in the face of adversity. Being obstinate and being determined look similar but they have a great difference in spiritual sense. Being adamant for selfish reasons and following your whims and idiosyncrasies isn’t same as being willing to let every attachment go in pursuit of truth.

Being a fool and being fearless are two opposite things. Someone asked me: “Will you be able to go jungle among thugs in night now you say you feel fearless?” I told them, I won’t be. Why would I do that? Just because I see the same life in tiger and snake I wouldn’t hug every tiger and kiss every snake! Practicality and spirituality should go hand-in-hand. Some romantic spiritual people are so fond of torturing themselves and their bodies that they create their own rules out of nowhere and think they are practicing highest form of discipline. Even trying to perform miracles like putting your hand in burning fire or walking on water is naive. There is no need to try defying laws of nature. If you could be at peace in your heart and content that is the biggest miracle. We do things either out of fear or out of love. When love is found in the core of your heart fear disappears. When you do things out of love more love is found and when you do things out of fear it begets fear. As simple as that!

  1. I agree absolutely. Courage is living your truth, having complete synchronicity between the universal truth of your spirit and how you live your life. tThis does not happen overnight. It is a journey to the destination of enlightment.

  2. I have to agree with you, being foolish and being fearless are very different. Sadly although I think I’m gradually getting a little less foolish, I’ve got a long way to go before I become fearless. I keep working at it little by little, though, so maybe one day. 🙂

  3. Well done. Thank you for such a well written thoughtful piece. I believe so many of our fears are created within us and have no bearing on truth.

I especially enjoyed what you wrote about the laws of nature and in relation to fearlessness. I’ve never understood challenging those laws to ‘prove’ spiritual awareness.

    1. True. Many people don’t understand that being reckless is not being fearless. Thanks for your precious feedback 🙂

I wish you, your family and friends a great new year 🙂

      Love and light ❤

  4. The holy spirit once it enters us when we become suitable to receive it, will lift us high. We can proove nothing by amazing acts of bravery and it is not a way to impress god we must give ourself to god, we need to proove nothing, he asks nothing else from us only that we empty ourselves unto him and we allow him to fill us full of his holy spirit which teaches us amazing things, awakens us, and enlightens us, giving us a better understanding .

  5. Nicely written post..It’s true that fear is always something which holds us back to do something and “when we do things out of fear, it begets fear” that even something which we could have done turns out to be a failure. Being fearless also requires courage. You ahve mentioned that “children are ignorant and hence do not fear” This is very correct. If we were all ignorant about the word “Fear” we would never give so much attachment to fear.

Interesting Article. I liked the fact that you mentioned that having no fear can lead o dangerous situation. it’s sometimes the feat that keeps us safe and alive. also, i think if someone is fearless and they emerge victorious, then they are hailed as “fearless”, but when they get hurt or injured they are called a fool. a classic example is probably tackling an intruder/robbers. if the robbers are overpowered, then the person is fearless, else we end up calling him a stupid person for trying to tackle them single-handedly!
Although, i do think all military personnel across the world “overcome their fears”, and are real heroes.

  8. Fear is not the problem…but the perception of the fear is…that is why a lot of people couldn’t step outside of their comfort zones. Everything new is fearful but we must have the courage to experiment that the fear will fade away once we embrace the new situations.

  9. A very nice articulation on being fearless.. It’s indeed true that we survive and thrive because of the pain and fear..

However, I beg to differ on the point that the persons noted are fearless.. They were courageous and they do know the law of nature and which are to be obeyed and which are to be over ruled.. They all feared that, they must not go beyond their principles..

As you have pointed out, let love burn out the fear on unwanted things and lead us all to a life filled with peace and love..

I have clearly elaborated on fearlessness being a spiritual quality where people didn’t fear even death when it was needed to show courage for truth though they did honor nature and its laws. Socrates drank poison and Galileo was hanged till death though both of them could have easily skipped that. Similarly all the persons mentioned were fearless.

Thanks for your visit, reading and kind words. Have a lovely new year 🙂

      1. Yes, I totally agree to everything there.. Only that I felt it would be much better to describe them as “Courageousness” than “Fearless”..
Thanks for your explanation and the kindness.. 🙂
Happy New Year to you too.. 🙂
