Acceptance is the Core of Spirituality!
Acceptance is the core of spirituality. There are some moments in our lives when it feels perfect. You’re at home. You feel completely harmonious and peaceful. You feel full. You don’t need anything to become fuller or better. That is the state of acceptance. Sages always stay in acceptance. Can we also learn acceptance? Why should we learn it?
It’s not that we have not practiced acceptance in our lives. We have. Many times. But it has mostly been forced. There are things which are beyond our control. In fact most of what happens is beyond control. This is the truth. Those who say you can change this or that don’t say much. The truth is, you can change your attitude and live peacefully or you can keep trying to change the world out there and remain restless. You can’t choose your parents, they have already been chosen for you. Similarly most of your siblings, your friends, your neighbors were given to you even before you were born. You can’t go back and change them. We have been practicing acceptance all our lives but the understanding of it makes it conscious, beautiful and makes your life beautiful too.
Thoughts Have No Periods!
Nothing happens until entire universe makes it possible. Everything is cause of everything else. So whatever happens in your life is not caused by your single decision. Forget pinpointing things to individual causes because they don’t exist. Colons, semi-colons and periods exist for sentences but not for thoughts because thoughts don’t have any boundaries. Similarly causation is an endless chain and not just similarly because those two are related and what I said might be one of the most important thoughts in the history of mankind! Now acceptance is accepting and acknowledging that life, destiny or universe wants this for you right now. This is what they have allowed to happen. We have two ways to go about it–either we can continue complaining or we can accept it and let it be.
When you keep complaining about a situation you are letting energy get wasted into something which is of no use. You may say, you vent the steam out by doing so. Well and good. It’s not going to change anything much. You might temporarily feel better by whining but on the whole situation is same. Complaining is denial of reality. Of existence. When you accept the situation you let yourself be. Life be. Existence be. Bee of being stings no more! The energy which was being spent in complaining starts turning inward and transmuted. It starts helping you evolve. You can’t realize how it starts affecting your life condition and it might not be apparent at first because it takes time. Since we have been complaining all along it will take patience to observe the real changes but they will be there. When complaining is no more your habit, the inward energy starts working on self-transformation and you attract more positivity in your life. Acceptance is precursor to gratitude or say they go hand-in-hand. If you accept life as it is you are grateful and if you are grateful you accept life!
Here we should clarify a couple of things:
Acceptance is Not Inertia!
Acceptance is not inertia. It doesn’t mean you don’t work towards betterment. It means you have more energy at your disposal to create changes. If you have power to change you should work to change and if you can’t change you should accept and be grateful for what you have. It creates positivity and you start transforming towards more happiness. Acceptance is having the energy to work for change–the same energy which was being wasted in complaining is not being wasted anymore.
Second is–it’s not like you should not report about anything at all. If you don’t give constructive feedback, the system of which you are part will start collapsing very soon. It’s important to give feedback even if it is negative sometimes. When there is a power cut in your house you need to file a complaint to electricity department. It’s not same as whining. Whining is more like counting your misfortunes. Constantly dwelling on shortcomings in your relations and life. It’s being vicious and negative about those things towards which either you should immediately start working or completely accept at once.
Even when you are in intense pain, which is most difficult to accept–pain will either make you act on it or you will get healed of it if you accept it. Being negative and whining and spreading negativity all around is merely going to sap energy out of yourself and people around you. So either change, or accept, don’t waste time and energy complaining about your life situation.
