On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 70th birthday:
“Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this Earth.”
Mahatma(great soul) was the honorific given to this man by Rabindranath Tagore, a great mystic poet of India who wrote Indian national anthem. Gandhi doesn’t need any introduction. His beautiful mind still pervades the earth and he keeps inspiring millions across the globe. He fought against the british rule with truth, non-violence and pacific resistance. His body weight was a mere 100 pounds but weight of his beautiful soul was enough to balance gigantic forces and carry over millions of people who needed freedom, courage and inspiration.
Gandhi inspired many people in South Africa and then in India to fight against injustice. He was a genius and a great thinker. His compassion and love for his fellow people made him a great sage who showed that ancient values of non-violence, truth, minimalism and compassion can do wonders even in this time and age of machines.
Gandhi has left an indelible mark on the universal consciousness. Such inspired souls come to spread love and kindness and they leave the world a better place to live. I can’t overemphasize the effect Gandhi has on all seekers of truth and servants of mankind. Today India is celebrating his birthday. My humble obeisance to this great man!
