Why Appreciate Others?

In my school curriculum I had a very nice chapter in Hindi literature. I don’t remember the details anymore but the chapter had a very good influence on me and I still remember one of the quotations from that chapter. I am translating it in English here:

It’s bad to criticize someone behind their back; but it’s worse to hold the words of appreciation back when others deserve them.

This quote stayed with me while I forgot most of what I had memorized in school to pass examinations. True education helps you think and learn and stays with you always. What I liked about this quote in particular was the emphasis on appreciating others for their good behavioral traits. It helps bring best out of people. It’s good to focus on appreciating good qualities of people because it encourages them. It also helps shift your attention on what is good in the society and world.

It’s easy to find faults. It’s easier to find beauty. The choice is yours. If you choose  finding faults and complaining you would not only pollute your own mind but also reinforce lack of positivity in the world around you. Listening to the stories of others is beautiful. It’s a healing experience for you as well as for others. If you listen attentively and put the judgement aside for a while you find many appreciable qualities about people. When you connect with others using your heart you find love. This love is the stuff we are made of.

Try appreciating whatever is good about this situation. It would increase your self-esteem. Being grateful for what you already have and accepting what you can’t change opens the door to the infinity. To all love and beauty. To light and peace.

P.S. Based on the feedback I have received I am trying to trim down the length of the posts. I would learn to be concise and effective. Please give me your feedback. Did you like this article? How many words do you prefer to read in an article normally? Please let me know. Thanks for reading.
